Delhi Technological University organised a national seminar on “Sustainable and innovative solutions for water woes” earlier this week taking cognisance of the depletion of water resources because of rapid development and industrialisation. The seminar, organised in association with the Green Institute for Research and Development, underlined the need for striking a balance between water and environment for sustainability. The need for innovative technologies to conserve, recycle and re-use water was also highlighted.
Technical sessions on sustaining fresh water resources and countering threats to watershed eco-systems and issues in conservation, treatment and sectoral distribution of water were held.
The University has established a domestic waste water recycling plant to treat the waste water collected from hostels and other buildings of the university and to re-use it for horticulture.

Zakir Husain College (Morning) of Delhi University organised the annual Bhisham Sahni Memorial Book Fair in the Capital earlier this week. The event was in honour of the celebrated author, playwright, activist and Padma Bhushan recipient Bhisham Sahni who once taught at the English Department of the College.
Various publishers of books in English, Hindi, Bengali, Urdu and Persian like Sahitya Akademi, Penguin Books India, National Book Trust, Publications Division, People's Publishing House, Low Price Publications and popular book stores like Landmark and Select Book Service participated in the fair and offered generous discounts to visitors.
The College also announced a 10 per cent discount, over the publisher's discount, on all books priced above Rs.300 to encourage students to purchase books.
Aligarh Muslim University organised the Sir Syed Memorial Lecture on “India's Democracy: What it means for the Minorities” earlier this week. National Minorities Commission chairperson Wajahat Habibullah, who delivered the address, said the Constitution and democracy were the best safeguards of minority rights. Emphasising the need for greater accountability, Mr. Habibullah said that panchayats are central to elimination of poverty as is the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme. Calling upon the minorities to actively participate in the process of democracy and emphasising the significance of the Right to Information Act, Mr. Habibullah noted that democracy required an informed citizenry and transparency of information. National security is synonymous with the security of the people of the country including the minorities, he added.
Pearl Academy of Fashion organised “Prove a Point”, a competitive series of presentations by shortlisted students of the academy and various other colleges from different cities of the country. Held this past week, the event saw students making presentations on topics such as design vision for India, corporate governance, fashion and styling and retail business.
