New Delhi: The superbug issue continued to rage in the city as chief minister Sheila Dikshit reiterated that there was nothing wrong with the city’s water supply.
“There is no superbug in our water taps and we should stop spreading panic,” she said. However, the government has taken the charges of medical journal ‘Lancet’ seriously and has convened a meeting at the National Institute of Communicable Diseases on Tuesday. Sources said DJB was not equipped to check its water supply for the superbug and has asked Delhi government to take measures .
“The matter is with the health department now as it is evident that the bug is in nature and not in water. It could have crept into water taps in Ramesh Nagar as alleged by Lancet but that is purely by chance and treatment by chlorine will not let it survive,” said sources. DJB had asked its staff to carry out water sampling at Ramesh Nagar even as it maintained that chances of contamination now were “slim”.
