DELHI TO TRY TO PERSUADE HOODA TO GIVE IT 43MGD WATER (Hindustan Times 18 June 2012)

NEW DELHI: All eyes are on the meeting between the Delhi and Haryana chief ministers to resolve the contentious 80 MGD issue. Delhi is hoping to convince its neighbour to share 43 MGD additional water to end the impassé, DJB sources said.
“This 43 MGD is our share of the savings from the BhakraBeas Management Board water that comes through Munak too. Haryana can agree to it and the rest of the share can be discussed later," the source said.
Haryana is currently using its portion of CLC but leaving the Delhi stretch dry. What the DJB is looking at is that Haryana should at least start releasing water through the CLC right up to Delhi so that it can benefit from the savings.
On Sunday, Chhatar Singh, Haryana’s principal secretary to the chief minister, met Pulok Chatterjee, principal secretary to the PM to apprise him of Haryana’s stand. Singh told Chatterjee that Haryana was releasing almost double the legitimate water share of the national capital at Munak head.
On Monday, the secretary of the water resources ministry too will meet the home minister, who heads the group of ministers on the contentious issue.
