Delhi is getting full supply: Haryana (The Hindu 18 June 2012)

The Haryana Administration on Sunday came out with its side of the ongoing water sharing tussle story between Delhi and Haryana. Rebutting Delhi's claims that only 350-380 cusecs of water is being received at Haiderpur, Haryana said records accessed by them have revealed that Delhi is getting the full supply of 425 cusecs at the pond level, because its production was 208 million gallons a day on Saturday.
“Delhi has been claiming that the production at Haiderpur is 15 MGD less than the installed capacity, whereas in their record book we saw that production was 208 MGD on Saturday, which is higher than the average production in five years,” said an official who visited the Haiderpur plant.
Claiming that Delhi has started lifting more water than it is allowed to, the official said: “We have been releasing more than 610 cusecs because of the Supreme Court order. The 1996 agreement between the States, states that Delhi will be supplied as much water as is necessary to maintain the pond level at 674.5 feet, but it does not mean that Delhi can keep lifting water without any checks. For instance they have been routinely lifting 210 MGD of water at Haiderpur as against the 200 MGD that they were lifting till 2008.
If they claim that their production has increased only because of technological intervention then why are they lifting more water?
On the dip in pond level at Wazirabad, the official said: “We were told that the dip in Wazirabad pond level was caused because Delhi diverted water to the Sonia Vihar water treatment plant. We learnt that Uttar Pradesh Government withheld some water supply from the Ganga on account of some payment issues, and Delhi without informing us, diverted water to Sonia Vihar.” The official said: “There have been checks by teams from the Union Water Resources Ministry, the Upper Yamuna River Board and all of them have agreed that Haryana is releasing the full quantity of water. We are open to any inspection by any independent team.”
